Alondra Marisol Garza

Alondra Marisol Garza is a Tejana/Chicana artist. She was born on the Mexican side at the Rio Grande Valley borderlands of Mexico and South Texas. She later became a U.S. citizen, holding a double nationality as a Mexican American, and moved to the U.S.A. She obtained a BFA degree in studio art at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley. Also, an AA in Secondary Education with Visual Arts focus. Currently, she is seeking her MFA in visual studies at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. She expresses her identity struggles by utilizing her interdisciplinary practice with a main focus on painting, also including installation, sculpture, and photography. This is portrayed by using body language, facial expressions, materials, objects and shadows. Her work has been exhibited nationally. Part of these exhibitions include: Foot in the Door at the Minneapolis Institute of Art, Mending at The Walker Art Center, Minneapolis MN, Lake Elmo, MN, and Art Reach Gallery in Stillwater, MN., The Body Embodied, Open Studio Night (collaborated organizer and curator), Dream , Break Every Rule at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design in Minneapolis, MN., Still Life at The Museum of Fine Arts in Brownsville, TX, Brain at The International Museum of Art and Science in McAllen, TX., Introspection (collaborated curator), and Engaged at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, TX. In 2020, she was awarded a stipend to create work for the University of Minnesota and CLUES 50th Anniversary Exhibition. In 2019, she was part of RDG Art and Design Residency in Des Moines, IA., (awarded a stipend, and room & board). In 2018, she attended a class at New York Academy of Art with Vincent Desiderio in NYC (full scholarship). Also published in Gallery Literary in Arts Magazine Volume 38. In 2017, she was an art educator and studio assistant intern at The International Museum of Art and Science in Mcallen, Tx. (Intern of The Month). During previous years, she has been part of several commissions in Tamaulipas, Mexico.
